I would like to find a reasonably safe and secure space to exhibit these works, preferably storefront windows along the Nuit Blanche route.
In the event that you would like to participate in the Les Rues des Refusés and allow me to install one or more of the APATHOT posters in you establishment, please feel contact Dimitrije Martinovic 416.877.4066 or email: dimitrijemartinovic {at} sympatico {dot} ca

location: various
When the AGO reopened its doors in November, there were some pieces of art that appeared to be objects of pure function. Benches that, save for some small signs, seemed to be meant for sitting on, not gazing at. These signs read ‘Caution: Art’. They transformed what otherwise seemed to be nice looking benches into objects of art.
Using this technique of transformation, I will be placing similar signs on regular objects around the Nuit Blanche zones. Mailboxes. park benches, lamp posts, and so much more, will become art! Like many ready-made art pieces, re-contextualizing these regular objects as art will transform their meanings and turn them into pieces of wonder. The only difference is that instead of bringing these objects into a gallery, the pieces stay where they are and the city becomes the gallery.

Big Chip is a life-size hand-sewn doll by Toronto street artist Posterchild. You might find Chip at any one of the official nuit blanche events or Les Rues des Refuses events, or maybe left inside a pizzeria! WHO KNOWS. He wants you to take him around, show him the sights, and take your photographs together!
Like a photo scavenger hunt, but without a list of clear goals, Chip is looking for experience in the raw! Document your adventures and upload them to flickr with the tag “Chips Big Night Out” or email them to posterchilds.blade.diary {at} gmail {dot} com.

The Duspa Corner Collective (DCC)
location: The Annex
For Nuit Blanche the Duspa Corner Collective (DCC) will be transforming illegal billboards in the Annex into art installations. The goal of the project is to bring more art into the Annex and to convey the message that local art should be celebrated throughout the year rather than just one night.
On Friday, Oct. 2nd, DCC will team up with Toronto’s anarcho/activist quarterly, The Molotov Rag for a night of spoken word, music, and vegan treats at Cinecycle, behind 129 Spadina Ave. The benefit show and vegan bake sale will kick start a weekend of alternative Nuit Blanche events to take place alongside Scotia Bank’s Nuit Blanche on October 3rd.
Friday night will feature spoken word by White Noise Machine. Musical performances will include the DCC’s Danger! Danger!, energetic dance-rap duo Hush Money, and the classiest of serenaders, Barf Pigeons. All proceeds from the evening will go to the production of the fall issue of the Molotov Rag.
A $5 donation will be accepted at the door. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Doors open at 8.
More information about illegal billboards can be found at beautifulcity.ca

The Keyhole Sessions
Life-drawing with an alternative edge
location: Lower Ossington Theatre, 100A Ossington Avenue
8pm – 2am
The Keyhole Sessions is a weekly life-drawing event where the models display attitude and style, and come partly wrapped in the fine art of Japanese rope bondage, commonly called Shibari.
For the night of October 3rd, The Keyhole Sessions will hold a late-night drawing class, where you can draw a multitude of models in various states of sensual undress and rope-wrapping. Inspired by a Suicide Girls Fight Club photo shoot, our models will be displaying greasy garage chic.
Pull up a chair, grab a pencil and start drawing figures that you’d show your friends, but definitely not your grandma. Also on display will be a collection of drawings created throughout the night.

Labyrinth Appreciation Night
presented by C.Wright.Thru.U
location: The Toronto Public Labyrinth, Trinity Square Park (between the Eaton Center and Bay street, the Bell Canada office building and the Mariott hotel)
Spoken word performance 11:11 pm
Labyrinths are one of the world’s most beautiful, functional and inspiring works of art.
And here in Toronto we are blessed with a centrally located, free 24/7, 365 days of the year, access to this work of art, in the heart of our city.
The only questions now are:
How many people know about it?
And for all the people who walk by it and either don’t notice it (and don’t know what it is), or don’t care, how many people actually appreciate it (whether as a esoteric work of art, or as the sacred powerful spiritual tool that it truly is?)

Louise D’Andrade’s Book Worm
by Roadside Attractions…WeeSee Inc. Window Installation
location: 911 Davenport, just West of Christie
Book Worm is a memory-based work.
Shredded books read from the time Louise D’Andrade was a child are assembled within a delicate nylon enclosure, thereby preserving the memories and thoughts about the books that exist within her.
The deconstruction of the book is engaging because it leads to reader frustration. It becomes a visual metaphor for the narrative. The processes involved require patience: they are repetitive, craft-like and intensive. The materials used are organic, solid and delicate.
Transformation is the main topic built within this body of work. The piece has undergone a deconstruction then a construction, becoming a compelling interpretation of the media.
Roadside Attractions is an artists-run storefront window art space located at 911 Davenport Road (at Christie Street).

Nuit Blanche Renegade Parade
presented by The Rothko Institute + Newmindspace + VelcroRocket + Nocturnal Commissions
location: roaming;
meet at Meet at the southwest corner of Avenue Rd. + Bloor St. W at 10:01 PM near the ROM Crystal. Bring a flask, wings, a brightly coloured flag and a Metropass.
Last year, thousands of you followed our renegade white truck through the damp streets and dark alleyways of Toronto while the city pulsed with wonder beneath the larger-than-life art installations that make up Nuit Blanche.
This year join us for an even bigger adventure with performances, deejays, a subterranean trip, and a touch of fire with the kind of wild abandon you should expect from us.
We are seeking additional volunteers and artists to participate and contribute to this event. Any sort of contribution is welcome and you don’t need any particular skills. What we are looking for is anyone who wishes to pARTicipate. The only specific thing that we are looking for is volunteers to bring cupcakes. We are hoping to give away 1000 free cupcakes for no reason other than cupcakes are delicious.
Facebook Event invite here.
{LRDR editor’s note: yes, cupcakes ARE delicious}

Skeletal Wardrobe Curatorial Project
by Monika Berenyi and Michelle Turpin
location: A rolling circuit, bound by Bloor St. West (beginning at the Bata Shoe Museum) running eastward to Yonge St., then north on Yonge St., and westward on Yorkville Ave., passing through Hazelton Lanes and the Four Seasons Hotel, passing southbound down Avenue Rd, and then westward, back to the Bata Shoe Museum. The circuit will run as a consecutive loop.
8pm – 11pm
The Skeletal Wardrobe Curatorial Project, presented by Berenyi and Turpin, is a wardrobe curatorial project that addresses the hidden and undisclosed world of the designer-creator’s protean process. The concept is a 3-dimensional moving installation, one that reveals the skeletal foundations of a paradigm collection in process. The multifold layers of raw design, mechanical structuring, infinite textures, creative drama, and idealized hypnotic silhouettes are revealed. The work is accompanied by its creators, has an informal lighting design, and runs along a strategically selected circuit, in the heart of Toronto’s haute-couture fashion zone.

Thee Ambient Audience
by Ryan Kinney
location: roaming
Through the use of microphones, electronic effects and amplification, the ambient sounds of Nuit Blanche will be collected, altered, echoed, distorted, phased and played back to those who created the sounds in the first place; the audience.
Rather than wait for an audience to “participate” (and thereby acknowledging the fact that no audience may be present), this work will be constantly mobile throughout the night, moving through the crowds and providing instant sound art to the exhibits. The work will be in a state of constant flux and the volume and complexity of the sounds will depend on the public response to a given exhibit. While all sound manipulation will be live, the raw sounds will be recorded and “remixed” at a later date, possibly for release so that the sonic memories of Nuit Blanche can be experienced at any time. This work will be respectful of any other sound/music/audio art pieces and will be switched off at appropriate times and venues.

You must be this high to ride the ride
location: at 1050 Queen St. West, just west of Ossington St.
Your local Knit Café will be open all night for Nuit Blanche. There will be an all night knitathon where knit café regulars will take up late night residence and knit and knit and knit the night away. We will be serving coffee and other beverages to keep the party going, and there will be other treats to feed the crowds. Last year on the Nuit Blanche the hungry were satisfied with yummy and delicious cupcakes. All the food at the Knit Café comes from the very celebrated Jamie Kennedy’s Kitchen, who will be cooking up some fantastic feastables for this all night event.
Now lets get to the “art” of the matter. The Knit Café is blessed with a very lovely bay window that faces the street. We are located right in the hub of the Nuit Blanche spectacle. Our window is ripe and ready to display treasures for the night. The entire display will be hand knit and crocheted by knit café artists Kristin Ledgett and Iwona Gontarska. The window will come alive with its own miniature version of late night adventure. Creatures of the night knitted from fuzzy yarns will be out en masse. I am referring to owls, “night owls” to be exact, who will be spending their midnight hours at The Fair. Yes the owls will be going to The Midway and riding the rides on the night of October 3rd. They will ride those rides all night long. The rides of course will also be knitted. What an adventure those night owls will have. We hope that night owls of the non-knitted variety will follow the lead of the fun loving woolly owls and have just as good a night on their own Nuit Blanche adventure and go on all the rides too.
